De meest gekende manier om Montagu binnen te rijden vanuit de richting van Kaapstad is
Montagu wordt wel eens de hoofdstad van de Langebergen genoemd en dateert terug van 1851.
De naam is die van de Koloniale secretarisch John Montagu die in de periode van zijn ambt de eerste
wegbouw programma's lanceerde (1843-53) De regio staat voor bekend voor zijn productie van
schitterende muscadel wijnen maar eveneens voor de fruitteelt.R62 Karoon Saloon - Montagu - Robertson - McGregor - Greyton - Theewaterskloof Dam - Van der Stels Pass - Sir Lowry's Pass. The route from Karoo Saloon is all Tar through Montagu, Robertson
and down to McGregor where we meet the gravel roads out of town
